Effectiveness of Erosion Control Structures in Reducing Soil Loss on Skid Trails

چکیده
Forest operations can lead to increased runoff and soil loss on roads skid trails. Best management practices (BMPs) aim minimize erosion water quality problems, but the efficacies of various BMP options such as bars are not well documented. The this study was evaluate effects different densities diversion structures (water bars) volume trail gradients two soils with textures in Shenrood forest, Guilan province, northern Iran. treatments included combinations four (1, 2, 3 or 6 per 150 m length section [overland trail]), levels gradient (≤20% >20%) (clay loam silt loam). Average m2 surface area were significantly greater (P≤0.05) than clay textured soils, slope >20% (23–28%) ≤20% (5–13%). increased, average decreased increasing density both textures. On textures, lowest volumes observed one bar greatest six installed. In contrast, smallest amount bars, when only installation additional led significant differences responses at each level reductions 77%, 57% 27% loam, 79%, 60% 30% compared single treatment. reduced unit is likely due velocity trail. appears effectively divert more slower flowing from trail, leading loss. While thus better meet objective BMPs loss, managers need balance cost construction against ecological benefits An investment into may be worthwhile if able nearby vegetation reduce input trails streams, thereby preventing these streams.

Evaluation of Factors Affecting Water Erosion along Skid Trails
Water erosion causes severe soil damage in northern forests of Iran which is associated with different rut depths in skid trails. The aim of this study was to assess rutting and soil displacement on skid trails to mitigate water erosion. Therefore the research was carried out in eight parcels of district No 3 of Shafarood Forest in the North of Iran. In order to evaluate the amount of erosion i...

متن کاملApplication of Polyacrylamide for Splash Erosion Control on Marl Soil
Splash erosion is recognized as the first stage in the process of erosion that results in bombardment of the soil's surface with rain drops. Two basic processes in soil erosion are the dispersement of soil particles by rain drops and the changes caused to the soil's structure, which are then moved by runoff. In this research, the effect of various polyacrylamide (PAM)values (0, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 ...
متن کاملEffect of Nanoclay on Soil Erosion Control
Wind erosion is a widespread phenomenon in arid region. The purpose of this study was assessed the capacity of nanoclay to control soil erosion in wind tunnel experiment. The nanoclay isolated from soils was dominant in montmorillonite. A sandy soil from the Khara desert, nearly 100 km East of Isfahan (Central Iran) was used. The soils of this area are structurally unstable and sandy texture ma...
متن کاملEffectiveness of grade-control structures in reducing erosion along incised river channels: the case of Hotophia Creek, Mississippi
Herein, we undertake a geomorphological analysis in which spatial and temporal trends of bed and bank erosion along an 18-km length of Hotophia Creek, Mississippi, are estimated for the period between 1961 and 2050. The evaluation was undertaken for two scenarios of channel response to channelization during 1961–1963. One scenario represents the ‘actual’ response of the channel and includes the...
